Saturday, August 18, 2018 — Miles 161.4–175.6 + 1.5 into town (15.7 miles for the day)

Isaac had said he wanted to get up by 6am today, but we wake to the sound of heavy rainfall on our tent. We pack up as much as we can inside, and make a leisurely breakfast in the vestibule. Day 12 — How NOT to End a Hike

Mom’s spirits are high this morning. Her feet and muscles are feeling better, and after a hot breakfast, she takes off up the mountain side while I finish packing up camp. We have ambitious mileage goals today (7 up, 6 down, 4 up for a total of 17), and it makes sense to get her started sooner rather than later.Read More »

Day 10 — Hard But Beautiful

Tuesday, August 14, 2018 — Miles 104.4–117.6 (13.2 miles for the day)

Mom and I both sleep lightly but comfortably, and before we know it the day is upon us. We’re going to slack pack the 13.2 miles of segment 7 between Breckenridge and Copper Mountain today, meaning we’ll leave most of our gear at the inn. We only take my mostly empty backpack with food, water, and extra layers, and we’re feeling optimistic about our “easy” day.Read More »
